Things To Do In Estepona Spain This Summer

Earlier this year we visited Estepona, Spain. A charming village in southern Spain that’s not widely talked about. Located just 25 minutes from Sotogrange and just under an hour’s drive to Marbella. Estepona boasts cobbled streets, picturesque squares and excellent dining options.

Before we get into it we want to point out that Estepona is probably more of a long weekend trip than a 10 day summer holiday.

Here’s where to stay and what to do on your next trip…

Hotel El Pilar Estepona Spain

Hotel Silken El Pilar, Estepona

WHERE TO STAY

Silken El Pilar, Estepona

Located in Estepona’s main square, this boutique hotel offers a perfect weekend getaway.

Be sure to request a room at the front of the hotel with a view of the square to fully experience the charm of the Spanish square. Open your balcony doors to enjoy the sounds of Spanish life as you get ready for dinner - though once the door is closed the windows are solid and block out the street noise.

A relatively modern hotel, in a great central location - a perfect base for the weekend!

WHERE TO EAT

For as little as €3 you can enjoy a glass of vino and a side of olives whilst you soak up the Spanish atmosphere.

Oliva, Estepona

The food scene is Estepona is truly impressive and Oliva is a standout choice for dinner.

This restaurant is passionate about authentic flavours and traditions, using only the highest quality ingredients. From acorn-fed Iberico ham to white asparagus to a show stopping premium T-bone steak which just melts in the mouth.

Be sure to book an outdoor table as it gets busy in the evenings, especially in peak season. And don’t miss out on the cheesecake for dessert - its a must try!

El Cortijo, Estepona

El Cortijo is another gem in the heart of Estepona’s food scene. Nestled a few streets back from the beach El Cortijoo is great spot for a delicious lunch.

Menu highlights include: tuna tartar; pil pil sauce croquettes; iberico pork paella and iberco pork secreto.

After lunch take a stroll around the streets and find yourself a sorbet shop to top off your meal, we opted for mango!

Makako, Estepona

Makoko, an Asian fusion style restaurant located in the Silken Hotel.

Now we know what you’re thinking, Asian fusion in Spain? Trust us you’ll want to visit here!

Expect tuna tataki, nigiri and sashimi; prawn gyozas; and black pork belly curry to name a few. A dish standout is the sautéed edamame with soy, chilli and lime - a great way to elevate edamame. As well as good food, the interior has to be mentioned.

We dined inside as we travelled out of season so it wasn’t the warmest, however, for those who prefer to dine outside, outdoor tables are available on the terrace with a great overlooking the square.

For pre dinner cocktails visit Bermeja, located on the top floor of the Silken hotel.

Enjoy panoramic views of the town and mountains as well as an extensive cocktail list. Our top pick is a spicy margarita of course.
