A Food Tour Of Everything We Ate In New York City
Our New York trip quickly turned into a food tour of the city. Prepare for a long list of bagel spots and great dinners! Don’t miss the street food in New York - we had some of the best tacos from a food truck in Williamsburg.
Of course, there are still plenty more places on our ever-growing list to try. We guess that means we’ll have to go back!
For all of you heading to New York you’re going to want to save this post!
Here’s a rundown of everything we ate in New York City…
JOE’S PIZZA - Times Square, New York City
Naturally, we visited the iconic Joe’s Pizza in Times Square. Despite the long line, things moved quickly!
It was worth trying but not something we’d rush back for. You can order by the slice or the pie with a range of sodas to choose from. One night, we had Joe’s delivered to the hotel room and watched Home Alone 2: Lost in New York - it only felt right when in New York!
LOS TACOS - Times Square, New York City
Los Tacos is another renowned spot with four locations around the city. We visited the Times Square location, which offers a small menu of tacos and quesadillas, along with the obligatory chips, salsa and guacamole.
We opted for the three meat tacos, and wow, they were seriously good! It’s a great spot for an affordable and quick, lunch or snack. But, remember to hold onto your receipt - no ticket, no taco! Also, be prepared to stand as there’s no seating here!
Tompkins Square Bagels - Flat Iron, New York City
Tompkins Square Bagels was our first bagel stop in NYC. We tried the famous everything bagel, but found the onion and garlic flavours a little overpowering. However, the filling - egg, bacon, chorizo sausage and cheese, was a hit!
If you’re after a sweet bagel, the menu includes French toast bagels with birthday cake frosting and peanut butter Nutella frosting to name a few - we can’t believe we didn’t try one!

PRINCE STREET PIZZA - Soho, New York City
Don’t let anyone tell you bad things about this place! If you’re into deep dish, then THIS is the spot.
We had a couple of slices of pepperoni with hot honey, and a vodka sauce slice - heaven on earth. So good that we went twice! If there happens to be a queue, ride it out - trust us, it’s worth the wait.
KOSSAR’S - Upper East Side, New York City
Kossar’s in the Upper East Side was probably our favourite bagel location. B.E.C done so well. The chocolate chip muffins here were also so good! As well as the fresh orange juice.
NOBU - Midtown, New York City
Nobu was conveniently located opposite our hotel, so we ended up spending a lot of time there. Whether it was for pre-dinner drinks, dinner, or post dinner drinks, and a 2nd dessert! What is there not to like about mochi and white wine? Some people may say a lot, we say otherwise!
BLACK SEED BAGELS - Rockefeller Center, New York City
Black Seed Bagels is a great bagel spot with super fresh bagels and generous fillings. We opted for bacon and avocado on a wholemeal bagel - yum!
CARBONE - West Village, New York City
Carbone, located in the West Village, is a quintessential New York restaurant serving Italian-Amercian cuisine. With all the hype, both good and bad, we had to give it a try. While the price tag may be steep, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Complimentary dinner snacks included a wedge of parmesan, salami, and freshly baked bread. We ordered the clams, meatballs, spicy vodka rigatoni, and veal Parmesan Milanese - the spicy vodka rigatoni really was THAT good! We finished off dinner with complimentary rainbow cookies.
THE CAMPBELL BAR - Grand Central Station
If you’re a Gossip Girl fan, then you’ll recognise this spot. We stood on the balcony where Chuck watches the infamous scene between Serena and Nate unfold.
A cool, swanky, and oh so very New York style bar. We stopped by for a pre dinner cocktail and soaked up the jazz music.
XI’AN FAMOUS FOODS - Chelsea, New York City
Originally we headed to Very Fresh Noodles in Chelsea Market, but quickly realised it closed at 7pm. We arrived at 7:30pm. Lesson learned - always check opening times!
Anyway, still in the mood for noodles we headed to Xi’an Famous Foods, known for their hand-pulled noodles and authentic dishes from the Xi’an region of China. We had the spicy cumin lamb hand ripped noodles - a delicious casual dinner option!
CHIP CITY - Rockefeller Center, New York City
There’s nothing better than a cookie stop, and gooey cookies from Chip City really hit the spot. With flavours like cookie butter with Biscoff, Nutella sea salt, and white chocolate macadamia, you’ll definitely want to take a box home!
LIBERTY BAGELS - Midtown, New York City
We had to check out the hype around Liberty Bagels.
We opted for the Bronx Bomber - chicken schnitzel, cheese, tomato, lettuce, bacon, avocado, no ranch, with a side of fries. These American fries were unlike anything we’ve ever tasted, pretty greasy but amazing.
If you’re at the 58th Street location, take your bagel into Central Park and find a bench to enjoy your bagel.
The Bowery Hotel - Lower East Side, New York City
We stopped by The Bowery Hotel for a coffee and to take in its incredible interiors. From rich wood paneling, plush velvet seating, to mirrored ceilings, it really was dreamy. The perfect spot for a pit stop!
WHOLE FOODS - Midtown, New York City
Supermarkets in other countries always seem better thank your own. Although we have Whole Foods in the UK, the American experience is another level.
We grabbed chips and salsa, and some brown butter cookies for our room. We end up going through about three boxes of these cookies during our trip - they tasted like homemade cookies, but better!
LEVAIN BAKERY - Upper East Side, New York City
The BEST cookies we have ever tasted. Despite the mixed reviews, these legendary cookies were a hit with us. We opted for the Two Chip Chocolate Chip, but other flavours included: Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip and Oatmeal Raisin.
AVRA - Midtown, New York City
A Greek restaurant renowned for its fresh, high quality food. With a large display of fresh fish, we were able to choose our dinner catch.
To start, we had the Greek salad, tuna tartar, and the Avra chips (a crispy zucchini and aubergine tower with tzatziki - amazing!), followed by our catch, and finished with a fruit platter, and a slice of olive oil cake - a must try if you’re in New York!
BIRRIA LANDIA - Williamsburg, Brooklyn
If you’re going to go anywhere from this list then it has to be one of Birria Landia’s food trucks!
We had the tacos and consomé. Slow-cooked beef that’s tender and flavourful, topped with fresh coriander, onions, and a squeeze of lime. Not forgetting the side of consommé for dipping!
SADELLE’S - Soho, New York City
For those seeking a New York brunch, Sadelle’s is a top choice. Well known for their bagel towers and indulgent French toast, it will sure impress. Be sure to book in advance, this place gets pretty busy on weekends!
ANTHONY & SON PANINI SHOPPE - Williamsburg, Brooklyn
A must visit for sandwich lovers. A huge, diverse menu for anyone looking to enjoy a top-notch panini or sandwich. Pictured below is the mozzarella, chicken schnitzel, and vodka sauce panini. This was sensational!
If you’re in Williamsburg then be sure to stop by. It’s primarily a takeout spot with no indoor seating, but there are a few beaches outside.
OTHER PLACES WE VISITED:
SWEETGREEN - A great takeout spot for an on the go salad.
THE PLAZA - We visited the Plaza for an obligatory drink at the bar, and a snoop around the hotel!
MORTON WILLIAMS - A great food store for hotel snacks, including American sweets and fresh cake slices filled with frosting - yum!
WOLFGANG’S STEAKHOUSE - An elegant and traditional steakhouse. Wolfgang’s is a must visit! Start with the extra thick Canadian bacon, followed by the porterhouse with a healthy selection of sides.
RALPH’S COFFEE - A great spot for coffee on a weekend (Upper East Side location).
