6 Food Spots Worth A Visit In Notting Hill
Notting Hill is a vibrant district in West London known for its eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and markets it really does have something for everyone. We have a lot more restaurants on our list, however here’s a run down of 6 spots we think you should visit, and a preview of where we will be visiting next…
BREAKFAST
Granger & Co, Westbourne Grove - 175 Westbourne Grove, London, W11 2SB
Granger and Co is a renowned Australian inspired restaurant known for its relaxed, easy going atmosphere and delicious food. With five locations across London it has become a hotspot for breakfast with Westbourne Grove being our favourite location.
The menu is diverse and innovative featuring a mix of classic and unique dishes with an Australian twist.
Their signature dish: Ricotta Hotcakes with honeycomb butter, banana and maple syrup are the perfect breakfast dessert. A must order to curb that sweet craving after a savoury breakfast. Another signature includes the whipped eggs; perfectly cooked, creamy and served with a delicious selection of extras to choose from.
Layla, Notting Hill - 332 Portobello Road, London, W10 5PQ
A neighbourhood bakery renowned for its freshly baked hand crafted breads, pastries, sweet treats and sandwiches. Layla work closely with their suppliers to source ingredients at the height of season meaning their menu often changes depending on the season.
Bakery highlights include strawberry ripple bow tie; grapefruit and olive oil tart; wild garlic swirl; and all the classics including pain au chocolat; almond croissants and tin loaves. Check out their Instagram for their daily menu!
This may well be one of our favourite bakeries in London!
LUNCH
Gold, Notting Hill - 95-97 Portobello Road, London, W11 2QB
A real interior drool, featuring brick herringbone floors, terracotta-washed walls, abundant foliage and an open kitchen, this is the conservatory in the back where you want to request your table.
The menu is a sharing concept allowing you to taste a range of plates, all roasted, charred or slow cooked over an open fire. Menu stand outs for us include; seabass carpaccio, passionfruit, lime, chilli oil; burrata, charred peach, tuscan ham, radicchio, balsamic dressing; wood roasted half free range chicken thighs, nduja, tomatoes, parma ham, toast - pictured below, THIS is a highlight. Paired with an extensive wine and seasonal cocktail list you cannot order far wrong!
Not only is Gold the perfect lunch destination but also transforms into a fantastic dinner spot. With its sexy lighting and counter seats it gives the perfect ambiance for a date night and equally a special occasion!
DINNER
Sumi, Notting Hill - 157 Westbourne Grove, London, W11 2RS
Being the little sister restaurant to Endo at the Rotunda, we knew this had to be special. A refined and elegant Japanese restaurant in the heart of Notting Hill.
Be sure to order one of the Gohan’s - a Japanese rice dish, seasoned with Japanese stock (dashi) and a sweet soy sauce which is seasoned and served in a cast iron pot at the table. For dessert and matcha lovers order the matcha layer crepe cake, the perfect light dessert to end a meal.
Although there is a open kitchen there is no counter seating so we opted for a bar seat. We love dining this way and would always recommend choosing the counter or bar seat over a table! Especially when you can see the food being prepared at the counter.
Osteria Basilico - 29 Kensington Park Rd, London, W11 2EU
Rustic Italian interior matched with home cooking you would expect to eat in Italy, there is nothing not to like about Osteria Basilico. It’s hard not to gate-keep this place!
We recommend saving yes to the homemade rosemary focaccia, olive oil and balsamic, perhaps the mozzarella, avocado and tomato salad to start and it has to be the home-made tortelloni fillled with ricotta and spinach in a creamy tomato and basic sauce for mains. This paired with the veal Milanese is the perfect sharing meal for two. To finish off go for the home-made cantucci and an espresso, seriously good. However, if you have more room than just opting for the cantucci then the chocolate mousse cake is a truly indulgent end to the meal.
Ria’s, Notting Hill - 29 All Saints Road, London, W11 1HE
Detroit style pizza served by the pie or by the slice with a side of wine? We’re in! Not forgetting the Spicy Tommy Margarita’s on which are on tap! The perfect spot for a late night slice, nestled in the streets of Notting Hill.
ON THE LIST
Now we aren’t here to recommend places we haven’t visited ourselves, however the below are on the list to try and we believe these will be as good as the above!
The Pelican, Notting Hill - 45 All Saints Road, London, W11 1HE
Now good pub food is sometimes hard to come by in London but The Pelican combines the best of traditional British pub culture with no-nonsense food packed with flavour. Menu highlights currently include: asparagus, butter sauce; pork chop, apple; whole roasted brill; lobster & monkfish pie and a decadent dessert list. We can’t believe we haven’t been here yet!!
Dorian, Notting Hill - 105-107 Talbot Road, London, W11 2AT
Describing themselves as a rowdy local bistro, Dorian is a upscale restaurant known for its modern European cuisine, sleek furnishings and exceptional service. With the option to sit at the counter to get a view of the chef’s in action we will be sure to visit soon!
Julie's, Notting Hill - 135 Portland Road, London, W11 4LW
An elegant French brasserie established in 1969 has recently re opened its doors with its mission to keep the 1969 charm. Previous celebrity guests include Tom Cruise, Mick Jagger and Naomi Campbell.
The beef fillet tartare, rump of lamb and the rhubarb and almond tart, accompanied by the Chablis is calling our name!
