How To Create The Ultimate Personalised Gift This Christmas
Personalised gifts are always a winner, and this one takes it to the next level! Here’s how you can create a photo book with an editorial style inspired by the iconic Assouline travel books using Mixbook.
While we’re creating a travel book, this can easily be customised to fit any theme.
Prices for a book like this vary depending on the size, but Mixbook frequently offers discount codes. The book we’re creating starts at £35.99 for 20 pages, with additional pages priced at £1.29 each. Shipping and processing times may vary depending on your order, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead and get organised when preparing a gift like this!
Mixbook is easy to use with an intuitive interface, so there’s no need to worry! But just in case, we’re walking you through a step-by-step guide to creating the perfect gift this Christmas.
First things first, download the Mixbook app. It’s super easy to use and lets you drop in images straight from your phone. Not into apps? You can always use the desktop site instead!
Next, choose the template you’d like to use. We went with the Full Photo Travel design and opted for a portrait layout.
You then want to opt for hardcover and portrait again.
Begin adding your images directly from your camera into the book. To make the process easier, we recommend creating a new folder on your phone with all the photos you want to include. This helps streamline the upload process and avoids the chaos of scrolling through your entire camera roll!
You can choose from a variety of page layouts, but we decided to go with a single, edge-to-edge photo on each page to achieve a full magazine-style look. That said, there are plenty of other layout options available if you prefer something different, including the ability to add text alongside your images. The customisation options give you complete freedom to make it truly your own!
To achieve a front cover similar to the Assouline books, you’ll need to design your own using Canva or purchase a digital template from Etsy. Many templates on Etsy allow you to customise the colours and text in Canva for a polished look. Simply search “Assouline books” on Etsy, and you’ll find plenty of options. We particularly like the one shown below!
Once your front cover is ready, save it as an image and upload it to the front cover slide on Mixbook. Don’t forget you can also personalise the spine! We recommend using the same color as the front cover for a cohesive look. Keep in mind that the thickness of the spine will depend on the number of pages—80 pages will result in a relatively thin spine, while approximately 250 pages are needed for a thicker spine. However, remember that adding more pages will increase the cost of the book!
After adding all your pictures, it’s a good idea to use the preview button to review the layout and ensure you’re happy with how everything looks.
Once you’re happy with your book, it’s time to place your order. At this stage, you can select the type of paper, the finish, and the style of your front cover.
You’re all set! Just make sure to check Mixbook for any available discount codes before you complete your purchase.
