8 Tips To Finding Your Personal Style

Personal style isn’t about following the latest trends - it’s about expressing who you are. If you’ve ever stood in front of a full wardrobe, shouting “I have nothing to wear”, you’re not alone. These tips will guide you in discovering your unique style, making it easier to get dressed each morning with confidence.

1. EXPLORE YOUR WARDROBE

Start by analysing what you already own. Identify the pieces you wear most often and your favourite items. Consider why you like them - whether it’s the colour, print, or fit. For items you don’t reach for, think about selling them online or donating them to a charity shop.

2. STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF

Trends come and go, but your personal style should reflect who you are. Choose pieces that resonate with you, even if they’re not “on trend”. It’s easy these days to fall into the trap of wanting to dress exactly like someone you see on social media. But, the truth is, that's not you. Take inspiration from these sources and add your own twist to make it suit your style.

3. MOODBOARD

Whether its Instagram, Pinterest, or magazines, starting building your moodboard! It can be overwhelming trying to figure out what you like, so gather everything in one place and look for common trends. Gradually, you’ll begin to see the patterns and understand the style you’re creating.

4. DEFINE YOUR ESSENTIALS

These typically include well-fitting jeans, classic blazers, simple tees and quality footwear. Focus on items that can be mixed and matched effortlessly. If you find these essentials are missing from your wardrobe, focus on building this collection first. Once you have these basics in place, you’ll find that the rest of your styling choices will come together with ease.

5. TRIAL AND ERROR

Once you’ve established your basics, it’s time to have some fun. Explore adding pops of colour, experimenting with different textures, and mixing and matching prints. Personal style is about experimenting to find out which clothes make you feel your best. If something doesn't suit you, don’t get hung up on it. The key is, be willing to experiment.

6. CREATE A WISHLIST

We’ve learned the hard way, often buying things impulsively, only to find those items still sitting in the wardrobe with the tags intact. Impulse purchasing is something we’ve all done, but to build the wardrobe of your dreams, creating a wishlist is a great strategy. When you spot something you think would work for you, add it to your wishlist and give it some time. Often, after a night’s thought, you might find it no longer appeals.

7. BRAND LOYALTY

Once you discover brands that align with your style, stick with them. Brands will often release similar key pieces each season, helping you to create a wardrobe you know you’ll love.

8. EVOLVE WITH TIME

Your style can and should evolve with time. Don’t be afraid to refine or change your style over time as your tastes and lifestyle changes. Don’t look back and wonder, “Why did I ever wear that?” Remember, at the time, it was exactly what you wanted to wear. Fashion is about expression and evolution; each choice reflects who you were then. Embrace your style journey and appreciate how it’s helped shape your current look.
